Stitches West 2013 aka The Haul…

Stitches West 1

Last weekend was Stitches West 2013 in Santa Clara California.  I went, I saw and I shopped ’til I about dropped.  I had quite the haul and a very good time.  The last two years I’ve gone with my mother, my sister and our friend Beth.  We always have a good time and this year was no exception.  We laughed until there were tears.  I look forward to this event all year because it’s a great opportunity to hang out with my mom and see lots of fun stuff and see cool people and things.  Plus the people watching is always fun.

Some of my favorite celebrity sightings were Gigi & Jasmine from The Knitmore Girls Podcast, Romi Hill, Alana Dakos from Never Not Knitting and I know that I’m forgetting quite a few others.  But as impressive as the knitting celebrities were, my haul was even more impressive.  I hit all booths I really wanted to and then some.

Stitches West 2

I picked up this amazing shawl pin from the Continental Stitch booth.  It’s white bronze in a twig shape with a rosewood stick.

I hit the Miss Babs booth a bit harder than original meant to.  I went in for a single skein of sock yarn and walked out with two.  I picked up Ocean Waters first but being a “biker chick,”  I had to have a skein of sock yarn in the Biker Chick colorway.

I also got to hit one of my absolute favorite Indie Dyers booth, Brooke from Sincere Sheep.  She’s a good friend of my mom and I love her yarn.  The colors are amazing.  It was all I could do to keep myself from grabbing all of her stock and shoving it into my bag (I’d pay of course).  I just love her stuff and she’s wonderful too.  She’s a lovely sweet woman and a joy to chat with in person.

I restrained myself and purchased tow skeins; Tenacious and Agleam both in a similar icy blue color.  Tenacious is a 100% superwash Merino and Agleam is a 50% superwash Merino and 50% tencel blend with a lovely sheen to it.  Both yarns are hand dyed in the Napa Valley.

I also picked up another pair of sock blockers in their new dachshund design…you can never have too many pairs of dachshund sock blockers.

I also made a point to hit Cephalopod Yarns.  I was on their website the other day and saw this amazing colorway, Ghost Moth.  I was about 75% of the way through purchasing it on-line when I realized that they were going to be at Stitches West.  I figured that I’d hit their booth and see if they had it before I ordered it on-line.  This was another booth that was very hard for me to only purchase one skein of yarn from.  Their colorways were amazingly beautiful but I didn’t want to go overboard and run out of  money.  Boo for budgets.  But I honestly could have spent $100 or more in this booth.

And last but not least, Bar Maids.  What can I say?  I love their Lo-Lo Bars.  They keep my hands amazingly soft but not greasy and never transfer to my knitting.

I had a great time and I’m already looking forward to 2014.  But for now, I’m off to update my Stash Page on Ravelry.

I didn’t fall off…

The face of the earth, but what a crazy month it’s been. I have been knitting, nothing major but I have completed a couple of pairs of socks. 3 pairs to be exact. And today I’m getting ready to leave for Stitches West. So a quick recap of my finished objects.

I plan to be back to more regular blogging soon.  I would dare to say that my work might slow down but since I was asked yesterday not to take my days off for Stitches 5 minutes before I left for the day, I don’t think that is going to happen any time soon.  The only thing I can hope for is to manage my time at home a bit better.  I need to get caught up on my house work and keep taking Maggie to the dog park as well as work on my knitting.  But since things have been so crazy personally and professionally, all I’ve done is knit.  Not that that is a bad thing.  Of course it wouldn’t hurt to stop knitting for myself and try to get some of my Christmas 2013 knitting done far in advance.  Ah, the best laid plans.  But for now, I’m off to pack my bag and charge my camera batteries for Stitches.
